Why I Love This Project!
Let’s be honest. Gift cards are practical, but they can feel a little… flat.
And a chocolate on its own is sweet, but blink and it’s gone.
But when you put them together in one handmade holder, you’ve suddenly created something thoughtful, festive and downright fun to give (and make!).
I designed this quick project because I know how mid-December actually feels. Busy. A little chaotic. Full of good intentions. And then boom! Suddenly you’ve run out of time!
You’ll find this project uses scraps you already have and one very common household item, which makes it perfect for last-minute gifting without last-minute stress.
And can we talk about the Santa suit look? Classic. Bold. Totally adorable.
It works for kids, teachers, neighbours, postal workers, friends and even those tricky “what do I give them?” folks.

When you have more time, take a few extra steps to add a bit of punch:
- take a peek through your dies…is there one that will work for the white edging? (this is the Sunrise Sailing ones now retired)
- add a big greeting (this one’s from the Christmas Words Collage Hybrid Embossing Folder, also retired)
- do you have punches that could work for any of the elements? (The cloud one punched multiple times would make great white ‘fluff’)

- Real Red cardstock – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 4 1/2″, 4 7/8″, 9 3/4″
- Basic White cardstock – 4″ x 5 1/4″
- Basic Black cardstock – 1 1/4″ x 4 1/4″
- Gold Foil – piece about 2″ square
- business-sized envelope
How to Make This Idea Your Own
Once you’ve got the basic idea, the possibilities open right up.
- Swap the Santa suit colours for birthday brights an balloons and use it year-round.
- Change the sentiment to thank you, congrats, or happy birthday.
- Skip the chocolate and tuck in a tea bag, lottery ticket or hand written note.
- Use patterned paper for a playful look or go monochrome for something more elegant.
Just take the basic layout and your choices are just about endless.
