Why Texture Makes a Card Extra Special
Have you ever noticed that when someone opens a card, their fingers automatically trace over the ribbon, the glimmer, or a popped-up greeting? Texture invites interaction. It adds depth, dimension, and—let’s be honest—a whole lot of “WOW”.
One of my super customers shared that she creates and sends her cards to a friend who is blind. She adds lots of texture so her friend can enjoy the card in a different way: by touch. Isn’t that just the most thoughtful idea?
This design is a great example of a card with tons of textured embellishments. Between the layered lattice background, the sparkly glitter flowers, the stitched oval die and a pretty ribbon tuck, there’s something to explore on every inch of the card.

Let’s break down a few of the tactile treats featured on this card.
- Glimmer paper flowers that shine and sparkle while adding beautiful grit and gloss
- Stitched dies for both the background panel and sentiment oval, which give a soft dotted edge you just can’t resist touching
- Ribbon loops tucked under the greeting for a burst of texture and colour
- Popped-up florals and greeting with dimensionals to lift parts of the card off the base and invite a second (and third!) look
The pink and purple palette keeps things playful and pretty. And the sentiment? A lovely “so happy for you” that fits almost any occasion. You’ll reach for it for cards for graduation to engagement to “just because.”

You’ll want to jot down the measurements to recreate this one.
- Petunia Pop cardstock – 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″
- Basic White cardstock – large scraps, 4″ x 5 1/4″ (inside)
- 2024-26 In Color Glimmer paper – small scraps of Petunia Pop, Pretty in Pink and Peach Pie
- Petunia Pop ribbon – about 3″
How to Make This Idea Your Own
The best part about adding texture is how easy it is to customize. Here are a few ways you can switch this idea up so it’s you!
- Use a dry-embossed panel instead of a die-cut grid for a more subtle look
- Replace the stitched oval with a tag-shaped die and tuck it under the ribbon
- Add clear epoxy dots, sequins or pearl gems instead of glitter for a softer texture
- Try new colour combos – imagine this in Coastal Cabana, Pool Party and Lemon Lime Twist with silver glitter. Ooh la la!
- Make it seasonal – glimmer snowflakes in winter, leafy sprigs in autumn, or hearts for Valentine’s
