Right now, as we celebrate Thanksgiving here in Canada, it’s the perfect time to pause and send a little gratitude someone’s way. And this minimalist card does just that. It’s got style, warmth and not a scrap of overthinking.

The Beauty of Simple Design

Here’s the secret: a tiny bit of stamping, no blending, no layers upon layers upon layers. Just a clean layout, a modern neutral palette and one small but mighty focal point. It’s a sweet cut-out mushroom from the Gathering Together Designer Series Paper (DSP).

When you have a layout as straight forward as this one, it’s (almost) impossible to go wrong 😉. Two layers in our ever popular – and easy – square with a cut out design as the focal point. With a “smaller” focus for the entire card, keep the greeting more condensed as well.

You’ll be rewarded with a perfectly cohesive – and pretty – card.

And by sticking to a crisp white background and a dark textured square (once again from the DSP), the tiny image becomes the star of the show. Those shiny gold polka dots (you might be able to see them better on the photo below)? A fun little wink of personality that adds sparkle and draws your card recipient in just that tad bit more.

How To Make It

1. Start with a Thick Basic White card base (5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ and folded in half).
2. Die-cut or punch two stitched squares—the larger one (2 3/8″) from the Gathering Together DSP in a print with minimal colour or images, the smaller one (1 1/2″) from Basic White cardstock. Glue the larger one to the top middle of the card front.
3. Cut out a small image (like this cute mushroom) from a piece of patterned paper.
4. Add a stamped or printed sentiment in a colour to match the mushroom or the background piece. Mine says “just a little thank you” in Early Espresso.
5. Pop the white square on top of the darker one with Dimensionals.
6. Add your fussy-cut image with some Mini Dimensionals.
7. Finish it with a few subtle embellishments (I used Iridescent Foil Gems for a bit of shine).

And that’s it! Proof that minimal can still be marvellous.

How to Make This Idea Your Own
