Simple layout for a birthday card

I think the Cactus Cuties bundle is not getting noticed nearly as much as it should be. After all, it’s just so trendy and – pardon the pun – on point right now.

For instance, how many of your friends have a succulent of some kind near their kitchen window? I have a couple friends who have gone a bit gaga over them and have many many varieties. 🤪

So what does that mean for you, the card maker? You don’t even have to try too hard! Out of the gate, they’ll already love anything with a little succulent on it!

Here’s a closer peek at the bundle. And if you want to see some more designs, click here or here for a totally different idea.

What’s the Card Technique?

The technique to take it to another level is in the stamping of the pot and the leaves. The shading on them creates an almost 3D effect. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Stamp a solid image in a lighter colour (I used Coastal Cabana for the pot).
  2. Turn stamp upside down and use a sponge dauber to pick up a darker colour (I used Early Espresso). Dab it lightly around the edges of the stamp covering over some of the teal colour.
  3. Stamp your image onto white cardstock then cut it out.

If you’d like, follow the same process for the leaves to get some more dimension on them. I used Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen.

You can see them up close here.

A couple circle dies in Early Espresso and Gold Foil, plus a greeting and your card is all ready to mail!

Will You Give It a Try?

Pull out your solid stamp images, inks and sponge daubers and let’s give them a workout. If you like, a simple click here allows you to pin, print or order any of the supplies I used.

Add a little coordination to the flap of your envelope with leaves stamped along the edge so they get a surprise as soon as they see it in their mailbox!

I hope you enjoyed this easy card making idea and you’ll think about this sponging technique the next time you want to give you cards a little OOMPH!!
