This easy sponged handmade card for autumn using the Gather Together bundle from Stampin’Up! is one of my favourites. And you might be quite surprised which colours I used for the awesome coloured leaf!
Have you noticed I have a “thing” for leaves? Big ones, small ones, embossed, coloured, watercoloured and cut out. They’re just a perfect shape and design for making beautiful cards like this one.
I love this design so much, you might remember this card I made very similar to this one to celebrate a special occasion.
I pulled out the new Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine from Stampin’ Up! for both dry embossing and die cutting techniques here. I’ve been playing with mine for a little over a month now and it’s great! It’s compact, light and easy to use. All plusses in my book. And it’s now available for everyone to purchase! Head on over here to get yours!
Easy Sponged Handmade Card for Autumn
Sponging is such a quick way to build up beautiful colours. And when you combine this technique with die cutting, your cards will be stunning!
Here’s why I love this technique.
- Works with every colour you own.
- Doesn’t need to be precise.
- Different every time.
Surprising Colour Choices!
One of the best things about using the sponging technique to add colour is the variation and combinations you can achieve.
How many and which colours would you say I used on this leaf?
You probably wouldn’t be surprised to hear Cajun Craze right? A perfect rust fall colour.
But you might not have thought about Blushing Bride! Or Cherry Cobbler! And believe it or not, there’s not a pinch of Pumpkin Pie on it anywhere!
Jo’s Design Tips
1.Emboss the two front panels of your gatefold card. Do this in two passes through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Tasteful Textures 3D embossing folder.
2. Stamp your words in Cajun Craze on Thick Whisper White cardstock leaving lots of space around it. Place the large leaf die on top, moving it around until you like the placement of the words within the leaf. Add a little washi tape to hold in place and cut out with the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine.
3.Glue your sentiment leaf on your card front first as you want the words to be straight. Mkae sure to not place glue on the entire leaf or it will stick to the left of the card front and will not open! (Yes voice of experience here! 🤪)
4. Wrap the gold trim twice around the left fold of the card and tie in a bow.
Now It’s Your Turn!
If you don’t think you have enough ink pads to start sponging, you might be surprise at the variations you can create with what you DO have. Pull out a dauber and play!
