Here’s what we’re making!

Handmade Candy Corn Countdown Trick or Treat Candy Packets

This cute little packet has been around for awhile but is always fun to make.  Not to mention quick.  And extra fun to receive.  What little – or big – tyke wouldn’t love some Skittles or Reese’s pieces, or a mini chocolate bar or other goodies wrapped up for Halloween like this?

Before we get to the how-to photos, here’s everything you need to get started making your own.

Get ready

Cut your Toil and Trouble designer series paper to 4” x 5” and have some scraps of coordinating paper hanging around.  Whisper White, Basic Black, Granny Apple Green, Pumpkin Pie and Gorgeous Grape coordinate so they’re perfect!  Then one piece of Shimmer Black ribbon about 6” long and you are ready to go.

Let’s dive in!

Cut your patterned paper and then run one strip of Tear & Tape adhesive all along one long side.  TIP1: Put it on the side you WANT to see facing out.

Carefully turn over and put another piece of Tear & Tape on one short end.  TIP2: Try not to stick the paper down to your work surface 😉.  TIP3:  Also lay down a line of Liquid Glue on half of this strip for better adhesion.

Roll into a cylinder and overlap the other long edge directly over top of the Tear & Tape and press into place.  TIP4:  I put my fingers inside from both ends to do this so I don’t crease my cylinder.

Squeeze the bottom of the cylinder together to adhere, creasing together so the overlapping adhesive is in the middle.  TIP5: if your long overlapping strip is on either side, there will be more stress on it and it could come apart.

Stamp words with Pumpkin Pid ink on Whisper White scrap and punch out with the 1 3/8” scallop circle punch.  Punch a 1 1/2” circle in Granny Apple Green and one 1 3/4” circle in Basic Black and layer together.  TIP6:  Mix up your colours depending on which designer paper you are using.  I like to have a coordinating colour on top of my paper so it stands out more.

Cut a small strip of coordinating patterned paper 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” and make a banner for the ends and glue to middle front of the packet with Liquid Glue.  TIP7:   Insert each end into Banner Triple Punch to make this quick and easy.

Attach circle greeting with Stampin’ Dimensionals to the middle of the packet.  TIP8:  I used three across the middle for strong adhesion as the packet can get a bit bulky depending what you put inside.

Use your Stampin’ Blends to colour clear rhinestones.  TIP9: I like my colour a bit darker so I used the DARK Pumpkin Pie.  You might like lighter or a mix of light and dark.  Use the bullet tip and be gentle.

Fill packet with mini candies about 2/3’s full.  TIP10: If they’re not in a wrapper, select hard sided candies that won’t stain the paper (as there is not food safe coating on your paper).  Alternately a flat mini chocolate bar, a peppermint patty or a mini package of candies is perfect.

Thread ribbon through the hole in Gold Library Clip and knot once.  Trim if needed.  Put a clip on the open end to hold closed.
