If you have a furry feline, you are going to LOVE this handmade cat card for International Cat Day! And even if you don’t have a cat, betcha you’re going to smile when you see this card!
I have to ‘fess up – we don’t have a cat – anymore. I had to make a choice between the cat and the hubby (and his severe allergies). And considering he will actually vacuum the house and she didn’t even catch mice, the writing was on the wall for poor Echo. We did find a wonderful home for her, but I still miss her furry little face.
Here’s why I think you’re going to fall in love with the Playful Pets (just might want to pick up the whole bundle of goodies from Stampin’ Up!)
- Purr-fect! (sorry, couldn’t resist! 😜)
Let’s take a closer look.
Handmade Cat Card for International Cat Day
The main elements of my card are the cropped cat and those super sweet little paws cut out of the Basic Black cardstock. Both are dies found in the Pampered Pets bundle.
I was so happy to see a pet set with both dogs and cats. Even though our family can definitely be termed a ‘dog’ family, I love the felines in this set. The both have the most perfect expressions, don’t you think?
And what’s great is all the main images can be cut with a matching die. Thank you Stampin’ Up!
How Did I Make This?
The background words is a piece of the designer series paper from the Playful Pets paper. I loved the black and white against my Real Red card base.
For the main part of the card, I first cut my three paw prints from a piece of Basic Black cardstock. TIP: Don’t throw away the tiny heart shape from the paw prints.
After that I put Versamark ink on just the “I hope your day is” part of the greeting stamp. TIP: Take your time and be a bit persnickety on the words so you only ink the top portion. Once I stamped it, I sprinkled on white embossing powder then heat set it.
A quick clean of my stamp, them I used my Basic Black Stampin’ Write marker to only highlight the “a real treat” from the sentiment and stamped that onto a piece of Thick Whisper White. My Tasteful Labels Dies came in handy to crop these words.
(In case you are wondering, these Tasteful Labels Dies are a MUST HAVE! in my opinion. Both negative and positive images are wonderful with these dies. Take a peek at this card and this card to see what I mean.
A glued a tiny strip of silver foil paper to the bottom of the Basic Black piece then glued it onto the larger Real Red.
Make The Cat Your Own!
Next I stamped the cat in Memento black ink onto Thick Whisper White cardstock. Then I used my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers to give her some subtle shading in Smoky Slate, Basic Black and a tiny bit of Flirty Flamingo. But you could colour her (and she really does look like a her doesn’t she?) whatever colour YOUR feline is!
Then a quick run through my die cutting machine and she was ready for action.
To assemble the card, the Real Red panel was glued down to the patterned word paper. Then I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach the banner below the embossed greeting and my cat above it. And that’s all that was needed to make a super cute handmade card for International Cat Day!
Psssst…don’t miss my totally different cat design here!

Thanks So Much
I hope you got a smile out of my card design today. Here’s another design my friend Mary made me!
Don’t you just love that middle cat? I know a cat who has just that expression when he’s not impressed!
Even if you don’t have a cat yourself, I’ll bet you know someone who does. I hope you celebrate them and their playful pet with a handmade cat card for International Cat Day!
