From me to you Happy New Year 2020! As we wave good bye to 2019, I’m wishing all good things for you in this new decade. Most importantly, the time to spend doing the thing you love – paper craft! 😉

And today’s project is one showcasing how much I appreciate your spending time with me on this fun crafting journey. And celebrating your friendship!

Plus I want to show you how you can get a bit more life from your stamps and dies. Use them for home decor and pretty gifts for friends like with this canvas panel.

Create an Awesome Happy New Year 2020 Wish with Stampin Up! Dies

Here I’ve combined a bunch of dies to help convey my thoughts about friendship. Can you tell how many I’ve used?

  • Magnolia Memory for the flowers and leaves
  • Layering Ovals for the greeting and scalloped frame
  • Stitched Labels for the larger frame
  • Stitched Lace for the background layer

Let’s take a closer look to see my tips for creating this gift.

How To Create These Magnolia Flowers

  • Combine soft pastel colours with a pop of brighter pink (Flirty Flamingo) and yellow (Daffodil Delight) for contrast
  • create interest with layered flowers by having more and less petals – the pink centre has three layers of dies to build it up, the yellow centre has only two – there are three different flower petals in the Magnolia Memory dies
  • Vary the level of intensity for flower centres with both sponged ink and coloured paper – the lower yellow flower has a white centre sponged light Flirty Flamingo, the top flower has a matching Daffodil centre
  • Add dimension to flower petals with sponged colour on the outside edge – add to some petals and not to others for variety
  • Use your bone folder to curl the edges of the flowers BEFORE gluing together

Jo’s Design Tips

Happy New Year 2020 with Dies from Stampin Up! Magnolia Memory Stitched Labels and Stitched Lace
  1. Add flower centres with a Clear Faceted Gem (without colour) for a hint of shine and additional texture
  2. Create a strong focal point with Tuxedo Black Memento ink for the sentiment from the Strong & Beautiful stamp set
  3. Watercolour the cotton canvas panel with a very light light layer of colour so it is not so stark white – I used a Daffodil Delight stamp pad and my Aqua Painter
  4. Add varying levels of height with Stampin’ Dimensionals – for the Flirty Flamingo Stitched Label frame and then again for the matted greeting

How Will You Celebrate a New Decade?

If you’ve never tried to create a home decor piece, this is a perfect one to start with. It’s easy, fun and versatile. Change up the colours to personalize it for a friend. Create different seasonal feeling with bursts of colour. And here’s another idea made with daisies for a fun and useful gift.

Or if you want, turn this into a card for a special friend. Just remember you will need to probably hand deliver it so the flowers retain their shape. If you already have these dies at home, better hop to it! And if not, you can add them to your own stash by clicking on any of them here.
