Today I want to show you how to add colour to embossing folders for cool background effects for your cards! Be warned though, this can get addictive pretty quickly! 🤗
Just try this technique once and you’ll be hooked at how unique your results can be!
With so few supplies to get an awesome design like this, you are going to flip!! All you need is:
- an embossing folder
- one colour of stamp pad
- some paper
- and your die cutting machine (like the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine)
Let me show you how you can get fabulous coloured backgrounds too with this simple tip!

Hard to believe they came from the same run through the embossing folder isn’t it?
One of the main reasons I think this technique is so great, is you really don’t need to add much more to dress up a card! Almost all of the work is done with the ink and folder. Change your folder, your paper and ink colour and you’ll be rewarded with unlimited designs!
Cheery Accents Made This Card Pop
I loved the mix of colours on this card. So bright and happy!
The main colour is Flirty Flamingo and I paired it with Mango Melody, Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green accents.
The little flowers, leaves and butterfly accents are from my most-used-so-sorry-to-see-it’s-retiring set of dies from the January to June 2021 Spring Mini, Many Hearts. I’ve used it over and over again over the past several months!
I first glued the green leaves down, then added the flowers on top with liquid glue. The butterfly is attached with a mini dimensional.
The greeting is from another soon-to-be-gone stamp set called Happy Thoughts. It’s been one of the ones I’ve reached for this spring too. Who can’t use a happy thought or two sent their way?
Time to Play!
Now it’s your turn to scare up an embossing folder, an ink pad and some paper! Then get ready to play with this technique for wonderful backgrounds. Here’s another design with the Tin Tile embossing folder.
