Let’s take a closer look at some of the details.

How to Decorate a Gift Box with Cutouts

Start with your greeting. Don’t you just love the script on this greeting? So classy, and what a great sentiment! I stamped on a piece of Pear Pizzazz with Versamark and sprinkled it with gold embossing powder. It’s always so fun to see it melt to a shiny, molten gold when I aim my heat tool at it!

Next die cut the greeting out with the larger round die from the Tasteful Labels Dies.

Get Your Die Cutting Machine Ready!

You will need to both emboss the squares of Whisper White cardstock and crop several of the ferns in different colours and papers. These are the ones I’ve tucked in behind the greeting:

  • Pretty peacock – two larger stems
  • Gold foil – two, one smaller and one larger stem
  • Vellum – one small sprig
  • Pear Pizzazz – one small sprig

TIP: I cut all my dies out, then glued them to the back of my circle with my Stampin SEAL+. TIP: I did need to trim some of the dies down so only smaller pieces extended out.

Attach dimensionals to the back of the greeting and set aside. TIP: place the dimensionals over the cutout elements as an added staying power.

Then while you still have your die cutting machine out, take two pieces of 2″ x 6″ Whisper White and run them through the Greenery folder. TIP: There are two folders in this set so pick the one with the most impressions. It will show up a bit better behind your paper.

Once your papers are embossed, cut them into 2″ x 2″ squares. You have 6 in total.

Decorate the Box

The hardest part about the box decorating is deciding on the paper you are going to use! Every single one of these designs says “pick me”!

Each of the squares is 1 3/4″ square and you need 4 of them.

Use the Stampin’ SEAL+ to glue the designer paper to the embossed white squares. TIP: You need a stronger glue here or the smaller square won’t adhere over the long term.

Put a dimensional on each of the corners on the reverse side of the white and adhere to the four sides of the box. Add one plain white to the top of the box in the same manner. Your last white square will go into the box to finish the bottom nicely.

Lastly remove the backing on your dimensionals and affix your greeting to the top of the box.

Add an Optional – but oh so lovely – Bow

If you’ve been following me for a little while, you know I love me my ribbon! Whether tied in a bow like on this card, or knotted like this one, I find they really take your designs from “pretty” to “stunning”!

For this one, you need a piece of ribbon about 15-16″ long. I used the reversible with Pretty Peacock on one side and Old Olive on the other. Thread it under the box and bring it up on each side UNDER the white square. Bring the left end under the top square as well and tie in a bow on the right hand side.
