Here’s why I love using dies.
They do ALL the work! When you have one as spectacular as the sunflower, you want it to be front and centre.
All. The. Time.
I think today’s card could be sent to either a guy or a gal and they will LOVE it! Do you agree?
Let me share some tips for working with dies so you have fabulous results too.
How to Make a Card with Dies
Keep It Simple
There are three dies on this card. But two are simply layering elements for the sentiment. So it doesn’t look too cluttered. If I had added leaves and more shapes, I think it would have detracted from the card’s elegance.
I’ve also limited myself to working with three colours here: Old Olive, Early Espresso and Crumb Cake. Neither overpowers the other and they work together wonderfully.
Enhance Your Dies with Stamps
When you have a great bundle like the Celebrate Sunflower, it’s so easy to add extra depth to your cards. Here I used a Versamark stamp pad for the flower image and centre underneath. I love how the tone-on-tone Crumb Cake doesn’t compete with the Early Espresso die.
Use Embellishments for Interest
Embellishments are the icing on the cake for a card. But you can overdo them too. Here I used a couple different embellishments, not sparingly at all! But since they don’t compete for the prime focus of the card, it all works.
Rather than use the die cut centre included in the Sunflower Dies, I wanted something a bit different. Plus I really didn’t want to introduce another colour, so I reached for my Gold Glitter Enamel Dots. This was the result.
I really like how this turned out. A POP of brightness that catches the eye! I think the key was mixing up the different sizes of the dots.
My other embellishment is the strip of Faux Suede ribbon peeking from behind the sentiment and underneath the sunflower. Again, a simple strip rather than a bow so it adds to, and doesn’t detract from, the overall card design.
