Do you love when a card comes together clean and simple — but still looks like you bought it in a boutique?

Remember that beginner heat embossing technique we played with earlier? We’re adding a spooky-fun twist, and showing you how to turn one embossed pumpkin into two totally different cards, just by changing your ink and greeting.

🍂 Card #1 is soft and autumnal, perfect for a thoughtful “Thinking of You” or a last minute Thanksgiving card.
👻 Card #2 is bold, graphic, and ready to shout “BOO!” FUn Halloween vibes!

And the best part? They both use the emboss resist technique, a simple process with a big visual payoff.

One Pumpkin, Two Ways

Why I Love Emboss Resist (and You Will Too 😉)

There’s something magical about watching that creamy white pumpkin appear as you brush ink over it, like a little piece of crafting chemistry (which I have to admit, wasn’t my forte in high school!).

This technique works especially well for clean and simple layouts because the colour does all the heavy lifting. Just three ink pads, a blending brush, and you’ve got yourself boutique-worthy cards. Here I used:

  • Mossy Meadow (for earthy depth and his cute stem)
  • Crushed Curry (warm, golden glow)
  • Timid Tiger (soft orange for a kiss of fall or Halloween flair)

See how the ink glows around the pumpkin? That’s the emboss resist magic in action.

The Emboss Resist Magic

If you’ve never tried this before, here’s the ‘secret’ recipe:

  1. Stamp your pumpkin in VersaMark on white cardstock.
  2. Sprinkle white embossing powder over top and heat set.
  3. Once cool, use your blending brush to swirl on colour — the embossed areas resist the ink and stay crisp white.
  4. Wipe away any ink sitting on the embossing, and ta-da, you’ve got your glowing pumpkin moment.

For the vines, I die cut coordinating leaves to add that bit of texture (and to hide any “creative” ink blending, you know, those little bits that don’t look so hot).

Two Totally Different Looks

Card #1: Soft & Serene

Paired with Mossy Meadow cardstock, this version feels calm and thoughtful. I added a gentle “thinking of you” greeting and kept everything airy and simple. Ideal for anyone who needs a pick-me-up this time of year.

Card #2: Bold & Boo-tiful

Swap that green for Basic Black, change up the die-cut vines, and you’ve got instant Hallowe’en! The orange pops even more, and that playful “BOO!” greeting gives it a cheeky twist.

One Pumpkin Two Ways - Emboss Resist for Fall and Halloween

Both cards share the same design, but the vibe really is different. It’s kind of like switching from pumpkin spice latte to trick-or-treat candy with a sip and a crunch!
