This penguin handmade friend birthday card is so adorable! Plus, how about if I told you you can make it without a die cutting machine?

Makes it even more adorable, doesn’t it?

When we’ve been paper crafting for awhile, one of the things I think we tend to shy away from is creating scenes with our stamps, paper and ink.

It’s one of the first things we learn, yet sadly one of the first we leave behind.

So I want to get back to that in today’s cutie card that has a couple unexpected parts to it!

Penguin Handmade Friend Birthday Card
A fun card for guys and gals made with the Penguin Place stamp set

The Penguin Place set of stamps is absolutely ideal for this type of card.

  • a clear (photopolymer) stamp set so we can see exactly where to place stamps
  • got all kinds of little images to create all kinds of “scenes” for all kinds of folks
  • photopolymer so we can change the shape of some of the stamps (the “To the coolest friend ever” is actually a straight stamp)
  • downright fun to use!

Here it is!

While there are a few steps to making this card, it goes together pretty quickly when you layer your images in this order:

  1. wavy “hill” in Balmy Blue (don’t forget the one coming in from the left!)
  2. penguin in Memento Tuxedo Black
  3. penguin’s beak and feet
  4. trees and friend greeting in Mossy Meadow
  5. snowflakes and birthday greeting in Balmy Blue

Now there’s another couple really fun parts to this card. See the hat and scarf? You may not have noticed in the photo above, but they’re…

Add cool elements by clear embossing over patterned paper

I stamped them onto a piece of Balmy Blue patterned paper from the Subtles 6×6 package with Versamark ink.

Then I sprinkled them with clear embossing powder and melted it until it was shiny. Lastly I cut them out with my Paper Snips and added them to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals!

If you like to create scenes like this, here’s another fun design, this time made with cute leaping sheep.

Your Turn Stamper!
