Adding a traditional red, white and green watercolour background is great way to showcase the stamp set.

I love the look of white on a dark paper, like you see with the greeting on the Real Red. Whenever I want my card to really stand out, I play with a nice solid sentiment like this one from the Encircled in Warmth stamps.

It was a toss-up which sentiment I wanted to use. The two contenders were the Joyful Season and the Warm Christmas Wishes! Leave me a comment which one you like the best!

I’m always happy when I can get a set that has lots of different “feels”! So there’s some light-heartedness with the “Let It Snow” right through to a bit more elegance in the “You Warm My Heart”.

I made the background using my Stampin’ Up! stamp pads and a water spritzer, plus one of my Water Painters. It’s just one of the techniques (there are 5 altogether!) I show you exactly how to do in my Watercolour Backgrounds for Card Makers online class. If you’d like to learn how you can add watercolour backgrounds to your cards, click here.

Here are the measurements to make a card like this one.

Cuttin’ It Up!

  • Shaded Spruce cardstock – 4 1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5 1/2″
  • Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Real Red cardstock – large scrap
  • Gold Shimmer Ribbon – about 15″

This close-up gives a great shot of the way the colours seep into the crevices of the white embossing powder. And the white against the darker green and red is spectacular!

Glitz up your card with the Encircled in Beauty Dies with their almost laser-cut look. And of course, the shiny gold ribbon takes the whole card up a notch!

If you love watercolour as much as I do, here’s a photo tutorial you can try.
