Who wouldn’t want a cute Halloween Card idea when it has a sweet little owl and adorably shiny spiders? Well maybe arachnophobes or ornithophobes 😬 I guess, but I bet they may even find it hard to resist these cuties.
When I first started designing this one, I was thinking about easy. And then it just sort of got out of hand!
Because there are tons of different techniques and elements here:
- dry embossing
- repeat stamping
- die cutting
- colouring with alcohol markers
- partial die cutting
- fun fold!
Yes it’s not one you are going to whip up in 5 minutes like this other owl card. Let’s take a closer peek!
Want a Cute Halloween Card Idea
Boo to You!
I first scored my card at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″ and folded the front panel BACK. If you’ve been following me for awhile, you know it’s my trusty go-to for a fun fold. Then I dry embossed the front panel only with a quick swipe through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine and the Tasteful Textures 3d Embossing folder. I love the texture you get with this folder and it’s one you won’t regret having in your stash either.
TIP: I should have stamped my words FIRST before I embossed the front! Oops! (sometimes you just never learn!🙃)
The little spider web is included with the dies so you can add this fun element to any card. Mine is glued to the front with liquid glue.
Where Did That Owl Come From?
But wait! There’s no little owl like that one all by himself? Where did he come from? I stamped this image first…
…then I cropped it with the Peek-a-Hoot dies. It’s a perfect way to get just the owl AND the spider cut out with one swipe. AND you don’t need to always have him in the tree like that if you don’t want to. I love the versatility the bundle gives me!
Here he is coloured up. I used my Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers to colour him: Cinnamon Cider, Gray Granite, Soft Suede are the main colours. I used a hint of Basic Black for shadowing the spider.
Do It with Dies
The Peek-a-Hoot dies are great! Not only do they effortlessly crop the stamped images and have a detailed cobweb. There’s a fun tag trio die included too. See it at the top right?
So you can create a card either with a panel the tags are cut from (I’ve got another one coming up to show you that) OR the tags themselves, like I did here.
The three different sizes means variety which you know I love! With the inside greeting, I stamped it on a piece of Whisper White, then ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine so only the strip was die cut. That way you can see the cool cobweb embossing on the black tag itself.
Which Technique Will You Play With?
I know you might not want to create a card with as many different techniques as this one, but that’s what’s great about card making. You pick and choose which ones you like to add to your own designs. If you need any supplies, here is my list. Add them to your own stash by clicking on any of them here.
