I often get asked what are common handmade card sizes? So I’ve got a really quick pic for you to save to help you remember the two most common – at least in North America.
But rad on…you might be surprised at what I tell you!
What Are Common Handmade Card Sizes?
The Two Most Popular Sizes
A standard sheet of cardstock in North America is 8 1/2″ x 11″. When this size in cut in half and then folded in half, it becomes our most typical sized card at 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.
But there are two ways to cut this one piece of cardstock in half. This image illustrates it for you so be sure to Pin it to your Pinterest board!
You’ll probably notice that most handmade card designs have the measurements you see above. They are also referred to as an A4 size.
Here’s an example of the landscape size 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.
And this one is a portrait size 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.
Both of these cards are made with the Tasteful Textures stamps. You might remember this card I featured using the dies too also gorgeous!
Do You Need to ALWAYS Make Cards This Size?
That’s one of the best things about designing and creating your own greeting cards. You get to do whatever you want – well, pretty much!
For instance my card today ISN’T one of these standard sizes. It’s one that’s much smaller. And square.
The measurements for this sweet note card are 4 1/4″ x 4 1/4″. I made it this size on purpose so it would fit in a standard envelope!
It’s made with the Music From the Heart stamp set, which sadly is retiring at the end of May 😢. A simple design, it focuses on colour and contrast to give it a bit of punch!
The coloured heart epoxy droplets (also retiring) complement this stamp set wonderfully. Here’s another angle where I think you’ll agree they add a ton of personality!
Now It’s Your Turn!
So if you’ve ever asked yourself, “what are common handmade card sizes?” you need not ask any longer! While certainly MOST cards you see will fall into the A4 category, the sky is really the limit when you are getting creative!
Here is everything I used on my not-so-common notecard. I would love it if you picked up one of two items to add to your own stash. A simple click is all it takes!Supplies
Thanks So Much
