In fact, I’ve shared more than a few other designs here on my blog using this same technique. One of the ost popular is this post about why you want to try emboss resist stamping for gorgeous handmade cards. And while the card you’ll see there is a little bit simpler, it’s just as stunning as today’s design.
So, I was surprised when I asked in my live how many folks have never tried this technique before! It’s such a stunning way to make a card for a best friend, a favourite family member or a special wedding that you’re going to want to try it right away.
And the best part about it?
It’s not hard at all!
But there is one super duper, really important common thing you need to have for this technique. Be sure to watch the video to find out what it is!

Add Colour for Amazing Cards
Highland Heather is the star of today’s card. And even though it’s not a really bold colour, it comes across quite strongly here. That’s one of the reasons why the leaves are in Basic White in behind the coloured roses.
When it came time to pick the colour for the leaves, I figured the best green to complement the purple was Mossy Meadow.
You can see the different intensities on the design. That’s because both Blending Brushes and sponge daubers were used to colour with! (see my tips in the video)
Use Your Embossing Powder for Something Different!
There are a couple steps you need to follow for the emboss resist technique.
First, create a stamped image with Versamark then sprinkle white embossing powder on it and heat it up.
Let it cool, then decide on your colours. While I have another design down below that has a different colour palette, our VIPeeps Facebook group got on the purple wagon for our live card!
Then use a blending tool of some kind – I used both Blending Brushes and sponge daubers – to add your colour.
Although you might think colouring requires “staying in the lines”, that’s so not the case! Rather, the charm of the technique is exactly when you go OUTSIDE the lines!
See how the white spaces are filled in by the colour to add a cool background?
The script font is just beautiful for our Congratulations. And picking the Mossy Meadow instead of the Highland Heather to stamp it with really complements the rest of the card.

- Thick Basic White cardstock – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored at 4 1/4″ on the short edge
- Regular Basic White -large scrap for stamping and die cutting leaves, smaller scrap for greeting
- Highland Heather cardstock 5 1/4″ x 4″
- White herringbone ribbon – 6″
And there you have it! An pretty card with an exceptional technique that looks way more difficult than it really is!
