I’m excited to share how quick and easy it is to make a monochromatic colour scheme card!  So easy in fact, I’ve included it on a Keep It Simple Sunday feature which just so happens to also be Father’s Day this year.

So if YOU woke up this morning and just realized that, THIS is the card to make right now and he’ll think you’re a star!

not your ordinary monochromatic colour scheme card

Monochromatic colour really just means using only one colour.  Now, I might be bending the rules just a teensy bit since I’m not 100% sure grey is a colour 😬. But today I’m calling it a colour and hoping you’ll go with me on it!

Plus, it’s super perfect for a man card.  This other monochromatic card I featured a bit ago made by my friend Paula uses much the same colour palette but has a totally different vibe.

Creating a monochromatic colour scheme card is a simple as

  1. picking out a colour then
  2. matching it with a neutral

…and here I’ve got a neutral (Basic Grey) matched with a (you guessed it) neutral (Whisper White)!

I really think grey is the new black, don’t you?  I love its stateliness without it being too stuffy.  Not as stark as black but still conservative and posh, with just a hint of devil-may-care!

how about a monochromatic colour scheme card

I am super pumped Stampin’ Up! brought back the coloured designer series paper for…every – single – colour in every – single – colour – family!   At only 38 cents a sheet, these pack-a-punch papers are a must in your craft room!

And it fits wonderfully with my Pick It- Cut It – Use It Up! theme!  Do you have STACKS of patterned paper lying around, just waiting for the perfect, best, over-the-top idea to come along?  After all, you can’t really use it until it’s aged some right 😉?  Well I, as well as many other paper crafting folks, are on a quest to get you to pull it out and craft with it!  Use it up!  Get enjoyment from it!  That’s why you bought it in the first place.

(Don’t worry…I can certainly count myself among the hoarders (eek!😩)).  I’ll be sharing loads of upcoming ideas that are easy, fun and a great way to showcase the beautiful papers you have!

And you know what?  When you do Pick It – Cut It – Use It Up!, there’s more fabulous paper out there just like these super patterned selections in all the colour families!

Aren’t they so pretty together?  (And you don’t even see ALL the colours in the pack!)

So why do I love them so much and think they deserve a spot in your supplies?

  • Perfect colour coordination with every cardstock, ink and marker (to save you time in your card making)
  • Four ultra versatile patterns, two with bright white backgrounds and two tone-on-tone (for different effects based on your design)
  • Two each of 2 double-sided designs (so you don’t need to hoard it!)
  • Easy-to-use 6”x6” size (non-intimidating and SO much easier to cut into for some strange reason)
  • Instant design elements without fuss and muss (just cut, punch or crop and you’re good to go!)

Another must-have item in this catalogue?  The A Big Thank You stamp set.  It does come as a bundle, with an awesome die cut “thank you”, but it was really the sentiments and all the little extra “bits” that called my name.

Think of everything you could DO with all those flowers and decorative elements!

Here are just a few designs from the catalogue to show you what I mean.

So how about now I show you exactly how to make a monochromatic colour scheme card?

…you know in case you need to get busy working on your Father’s Day card!

Ingredients

  • Basic Grey cardstock – 1 piece 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored at 4 1/4”, 1 piece 3 1/2” x 4 3/4”, 1 piece 1 5/8” x 3 1/8”
  • Whisper White – 1 piece 1 1/2” x 3”
  • Basic Grey designer series paper – 3 3/8” x 4 5/8”

Recipe

  1. Adhere striped designer series paper to the medium-sized piece of Basic Grey cardstock with SNAIL, then use dimensionals to centre on the card.  (TIP1: for a piece this large, I put dimensionals on the middle of the card and middle of the sides as well.)
  2. Stamp greeting in Basic Grey ink onto the upper portion of small Whisper White rectangle.  Stamp heart centred below it in Merry Merlot.
  3. Glue to the small piece of Basic Grey cardstock then adhere to bottom right of designer paper with dimensionals. (TIP2: Placing this off-centre adds more interest to your card.)

…and if you want to get fancy, decorate your envelope flap too.

  1. Run SNAIL around outside edge of envelope.  Lay piece of DSP on top and trim around flap edges with scissors. (TIP3: I used the leftover piece from my cut for the card front)

Now isn’t that FAST?
