Quick Tips to Create a Rustic Feel

1. Add lots of texture.

This is a reach-out-and-touch-me kinda card. Guys will love the Timber 3D embossing folder. Especially when you pull out the “knotty” look with some additional colour.

I added colour in two ways (see the next bullet). Plus use the Wintry embossing folder to give your holly leaves some bumps just like pine tree needles. You can almost sniff that piney scent!

2. Layer on subtle colour.

My card panel is Crumb Cake. But make sure to give it lots of dimension by adding a couple other colours,

The first is by taking the Whisper White craft stamp pad itself and rubbing it lightly right over top of the embossed lines.

And the second way is using a Blending Brush with Early Espresso in just a few spots. Then just use a soft cloth just to smooth out the edges of colour a bit.

3. Bring in just a touch of glam.

Rustic doesn’t have to mean B-O-R-I-N-G! Add a tiny bit of glitz to take the card over the top.

Try the holly berries in red glimmer paper (cut the die so you only get one berry). Or pop on a few Rustic Dots for a little shine.

4. Use simple shapes.

Grab a simple long label with a cool dots border (from the Labels Aglow Dies) for your greeting. Then glue on some holly leaves. No need to stamp them. The shape speaks volumes.

5. Tone down the greeting.

Cherry cobbler is more muted than Real Red so is a better colour here for the sentiment. You could also have used the Early Espresso or the Evening Evergreen to keep the entire card cohesive.

This is a simple 4 1/4″ x 11″ card folded in half at 5 1/2″ with a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel. When you add all these details, but in an understated way, your card will stand out from all those store bought ones!
